Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about Simple Rename

How does In-Place Folder Renaming work?

In modern Chromium-based browsers (Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera), the showDirectoryPicker API lets you grant temporary write access to a folder on your computer. Simple Rename will rename your files directly on your disk without needing to download a ZIP file.

What if my browser does not support folder access?

For Safari, Firefox, or mobile devices, you can simply drag & drop your files and click "Download as ZIP". Simple Rename will instantly pack all renamed files into a clean ZIP archive.

Is there a file size or quantity limit?

There are no artificial limits. You can rename thousands of files at once. The only limitation is your device's available RAM.

How does photo date renaming work?

When you load JPEG photos, Simple Rename reads the embedded EXIF metadata tags (such as DateTimeOriginal). Using the {exif:date} variable, it renames each photo to match the exact moment the shutter was pressed.
